Welcome to Bilkent University!

Dear Student,

First and foremost, we congratulate you on joining the Bilkent University family. In this booklet, you will find information about the Orientation Program [coded GE 100], which is designed to help you adapt to your new environment where you will spend the next few years, as well as the content and schedule of the activities you are expected to participate in as part of this course.

GE 100 is the first course of your university life, and differs from courses taken in your department in terms of its nature. Its aim is to inform students about Bilkent University and the opportunities it offers to its students in terms of academic, artistic, cultural, intellectual, social and sporting aspects. GE 100 is designed to facilitate an easy and pleasant transition into university life.

As a university, our duty in transforming the dreams that brought you to Bilkent into reality is to provide not only an academic environment but also opportunities that will contribute to your personal development and help you become an active individual in society. During the days devoted to this course, you will meet new friends as well as some of the university’s administrators, academic and administrative staff. You will communicate with people who will support you and make every effort to help you improve yourself throughout your time here. You will explore the campus, dormitories, classrooms, studios, laboratories, sports facilities, and the indoor and outdoor areas where you can spend your free time. The Bilkent University Library, for instance, will become one of your frequent destinations—not only for your assignments and research but also for your social and cultural activities.

One of the most important aspects of university life is that it offers you opportunities to develop yourself in areas you are interested in and to discover who you are. From this point forward, this process will be shaped by your own efforts.

We hope that the coming years of your university life will be filled with success, enthusiasm, and happiness, and that this process will help you grow into Bilkent graduates who are self-confident, trusted by others, capable of sharing and realizing their dreams and ideas, and able to extend their achievements to every part of society.
