Foreigner Family Members Residence Permit Acquisition Support Procedure

Accompanying family members of international faculty working at Bilkent University must apply for a residence permit issued by the Directorate General of Migration Management before the expiration date of their tourist visa.

According to the current legislation, the residence permit application for family members can only be made by the international faculty member (sponsor) who already has a work permit him/herself or by their appointed legal representative (lawyer).

University supports you (foreign faculty members and project staff) in the residence permit application process of your family members as follows:

a) The law firm contact information given below is authorized to assist by providing consultancy or legal representation services during the residence permit application process.

  1. You must apply for residence permit if you have a work permit valid for (at least) 6 months and before your family members’ tourist visa expire dates.
  2. Contact the law firm and get information. Determine the type of service you will acquire. Fill out the memorandum of understanding form. Submit the form, which has to signed by the law firm, to Human Resources.
  3. University will subsidize half of the fee required for the “consultancy” or “legal representation” services, and the other half will be deducted from your salary.
  4. Salary deduction will be performed in the first month’s payroll following the completion of the financial process between the company and the university after the service is procured.
  5. Our university will pay the full initial service fee (consultancy or legal representation) for each new employed faculty member and project staff. This application is also valid for faculty members and project personnel employed in the university on 01 July 2024.
  6. All documents, health insurance and other services fees must be paid by you. You can learn the current fees from the law firm.
  7. In both cases, application being answered positively or negatively by the Immigration Administration, consultancy or legal representation service will be deemed to have been received. The fee to the law firm will be shared 50% by our university and the staff.
  8. The responsibility of providing the necessary documents for the application belongs to the foreign faculty and project staff.
  9. Service fees valid in 2024 are as follows:
    a) Consultancy service fee:  11.000.TL per person
    b) Legal Representation service fee:  13.000.TL per person
