Distance Education Policy

Bilkent University foresees that observations and experiences gained during the distance education process, initiated due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will contribute to shaping a new era in higher education and influence future decisions regarding traditional in-person learning in classrooms.

The university plans to utilize the advantages observed in online education during the pandemic to enhance post-pandemic educational activities. It is anticipated that the experiences gained and the innovative solutions developed to address various challenges will contribute to improvements in education and teaching.

Depending on the country’s conditions, the university has developed hybrid education models, incorporating fully remote learning or various combinations of online and in-person components. For every possible learning environment, all necessary infrastructure preparations have been completed to ensure students receive a high-quality and well-paced education without compromise. It has been established that distance education courses will be held synchronously, following the announced schedules at the beginning of each academic semester.

The university aims to evaluate the opportunities presented by distance education and integrate them into improvements for traditional education. To achieve this goal, world-renowned academics will contribute to university education remotely by offering courses in their research fields or participating as guest lecturers in selected courses. Additionally, new synchronous remote academic programs will be launched in the upcoming period. As an initial step, preparations for three online graduate-level programs have been completed, and the necessary applications have been submitted to the Higher Education Council.
