Every year, the Middle East Technical University Parlar Foundation recognizes the achievements of scientists and scholars from a variety of fields for their exceptional research productivity, in honor of the late METU professor Mustafa Parlar.
This year, five Bilkent faculty members are recipients of METU Prof. Dr. Mustafa Parlar Foundation Awards.
Prof. Ekmel Özbay, director of NANOTAM and a member of the Departments of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Physics, has received the Parlar Foundation Science Award.
Four Bilkent faculty members are recipients of Parlar Foundation Research Incentive Awards: UNAM Assoc. Prof. Seymur Jahangirov (National Nanotechnology Research Center and Materials Science and Nanotechnology), Asst. Prof. Çağın Ararat (Department of Indusrial Engineering), Asst. Prof. Emre Ozan Polat (Department of Physics) and Asst. Prof. Naci Saldı (Department of Mathematics).
Science award is given to individuals who have made a significant contribution to science on an international level through their scientific work and research, or who have provided a significant benefit to the country’s development through their scientific findings. It is only given to living scientists.
Research Incentive Award is given to young researchers (who have not yet reached the age of 40 on the first day of the year in which the award is given) who have contributed to the development of a field of science with their research or have assisted in solving national issues in that field. This award can be given for a specific research project or considering all the work of a researcher or a research group.
