With the aim of creating a healthy and civilized university environment for all Bilkenters, Bilkent University initiated a Smoke-Free Campus policy with the decisions of the Senate and the University Executive Board on April 25, 2018. Accordingly, smoking areas within the campus were gradually limited in the following years, and it was widely announced to all stakeholders that starting from September 1, 2022, the use of cigarettes and other tobacco products and electronic cigarettes will be prohibited in all indoor and outdoor areas of Bilkent University.
The principles related to the Smoke-Free Campus practice, which came into full effect with the newly started 2022-23 academic year, are stated here.
- The use of cigarettes, other tobacco products and electronic cigarettes is prohibited in all indoor and outdoor areas of Bilkent University.
- All private areas of the faculty housing on the university campus are excluded from the scope of the ban.
- The interiors of inactive private transportation vehicles within the campus are also within the scope of the prohibition.
- Smoking areas accessible from within the campus may be established, provided that they are adjacent to the effective boundaries of the university campus and are clearly demarcated and marked.
