You are cordially invited to the seminar titled “Translation and Interpreting in the EU-Türkiye Relations”, organized by the English, French Translation and Interpreting Department within the scope of the International Translation Day events, observed annually on September 30.
Abstract:
In this seminar, Ms. Elif Kurşunlu, Director General for Relations with the European Union at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, will discuss translation and interpreting services from the perspective of an institution that frequently hires such professionals, and will address employer expectations based on her institutional experience. The aim of this seminar is to explore translation as more than a mere linguistic transfer activity, primarily from the perspective of institutions, with a focus on comprehensibility, trust, accuracy, representation, and effective communication. The effects of artificial intelligence and technological transformation on the translation profession, the future role of human expertise, and the opportunities and responsibilities that technology brings along will also be discussed from various perspectives. In this context, the seminar will also address topics such as the extent to which technology supports or limits creativity, the role of human intuition in creative decision-making, human-machine collaboration, and new methods for working alongside technology.
International Translation Day is celebrated annually on September 30 under the auspices of the International Federation of Translators (FIT). This year’s theme, “The Power of Being Understood,” provides a powerful framework for reevaluating the critical role that translation and interpreting play in an increasingly interconnected global system, with a focus on inclusivity and equity. In line with this theme, our seminar aims to create a forum for exchange that enables our university’s faculty and students to ponder on the current expectations, evolving areas of expertise, and the future of the translation and interpreting profession.
