UYP/TDP TALK: ‘An Inrtoduction to UNHCR’s Work’ by Selin Ünal, UNHCR Turkey External Relations and Public Information Officer:

In order to disseminate information and raise awareness about the global refugee crisis and advocate for refugee rights, we, Citizens of Hope Project/Social Awareness Projects, will be having a series of talks. Our first UYP talk will be held on the 26th of Wednesday and our speaker will be the External Relations & Communications Officer for UNHCR Ms. Selin Ünal. She will introduce the role of UNHCR- Turkey in this global humanitarian crisis and we invite the members of faculties, the student body and staff of Bilkent to join us.

** Selin Ünal’s short biography is below.

As External Relations and Public Information Officer for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Selin Ünal leads communications efforts and serves as spokesperson in Turkey, the world’s largest refugee host country as of end of 2014, in one of UNHCR’s largest operations globally. Operating in 126 countries, UNHCR provides shelter and assistance for millions of people who have fled wars and persecution. In her role, Selin Ünal implements UNHCR Turkey’s communications strategy along with her team to raise awareness on the displaced persons vis-à-vis the varied audiences, including media, local communities and donors. She joined UNHCR in 2012 from the International Organization for Migration where she served for more than 8 years in different departments including programme and external relations.
