Several genes affecting risk for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or intellectual disability (ID) have been identified by sequencing, but we still have long ways to go. Network based gene discovery algorithms come handy for speeding gene discovery process up and understanding the affected functionality. In this seminar, I am going to talk about the methods we use and recent results we obtained by analyzing on gene co-expression network of mid-fetal cortical development. Our results indicate that risk genes for ASD and ID often involve chromatin modification and implicate disruption of neocortical development as a mechanism shared by these disorders.
