Abstract:
There is great enthusiasm and interest in future energy strategies of Europe at Brussels. The energy policies have been under high pressure of the climate change concerns. This necessitates vast transformation of energy systems. In particular, among all sectors, electric power sector will be most affected during this process. This talk will present an overview of energy and climate goals of the European Union. It will include issues addressing EU’s future energy goals and ambitions. The steps in creating the energy union and the internal electricity market in Europe will be over-viewed. The impacts of climate change on electric power reliability will be highlighted briefly.

Sinan Küfeoğlu received his B.Sc. degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, in 2009 and the M.Sc. degree from Aalto University, School of Electrical Engineering, Espoo, Finland, in 2011. He earned his D.Sc. degree in technology in 2015. He has been at Aalto University Power Systems department as a postdoctoral researcher since then.
