Title: ”Determinants of memory for truth and falsity”

Speaker: Lena Nadareviç, Charlotte Fresenius University

Abstract:
Are people better at remembering whether information is true or false? In our digital world, where true and false information circulates on websites and social media, this question is crucial when considering how to deal with misinformation. In this talk, I will first introduce theoretical models of how truth and falsity are represented in memory, and describe the general research paradigm and methodology for investigating memory for veracity feedback. I will then present a series of experiments designed to identify the factors that determine memory for truth and falsity. Specifically, these experiments explore the effects of three key factors: 1) the characteristics of the statements themselves; 2) the characteristics of the context in which they are presented; and 3) the characteristics of the feedback regarding their veracity.
