“Quantum Emitters in Hexagonal Boron Nitride and Their Applications in Quantum Technologies”

Abstract
Single photon sources play a crucial role in various applications within the realm of quantum information technologies. Over the recent years, there has been significant interest in defects found in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) as highly effective single photon sources, primarily due to their remarkable properties. hBN, characterized by its substantial bandgap of approximately 6 eV, is recognized as an excellent insulator. It also stands out as a great candidate for applications in quantum technologies for hosting optically active defects capable of emitting single photons across a broad spectral range from ultraviolet (UV) to near-infrared (NIR). In this presentation, I will also delve into their inherent optical characteristics, such as their polarization dynamics [1]. Finally, I will share our recent activities involving the integration of hBN-based quantum emitters into free-space quantum key distribution [2].
