From silent spectacles to Neorealism, Italian cinema influenced many other national cinemas. The panel looks at the relationship between Italian and Turkish cinemas in terms of co-productions, remakes, and inspirations. Join our panelist for this tour, including clips from obscure Le Amanti del mostro (Sergio Garrone, 1974) featuring Ayhan Isik and Klaus Kinski.

Kaya Özkaracalar has contributed to various publications in Turkey and abroad, and is currently the Secretary-General of Turkey’s Film Critics Association. He is the author of two books, Gotik (2005) and Geceyarısı Filmleri (2007) and has co-directed several documentaries, including Behice Boran: Son Nefesine Kadar (2006).

Valentina Vitali is a film historian. Her research explores, from a comparative perspective, the relation between history, economics and film aesthetics. She has written extensively on concepts of the national in cinema, and on film historiography. She is the author of Capital and Popular Cinema: The Dollars Are Coming! (2016); Hindi Action Cinema: Industries, Narratives, Bodies (2008); Theorising National Cinemas (2006, co-edited with Paul Willemen).
