“Normal singular curves of a sub-Riemannian manifold”
Abstract: In this talk, we first review some essential backgrounds in sub-Riemannian Geometry. Afterwards, we refer to normal singular curves associated with a sub-Riemannian structures (g,D) over a manifold M, a pair of of Riemannian metric g defined on a sub-bundle D \subset TM called distribution. The end-point mapping associated to such a curve is not a submersion, moreover, it admits a Hamiltonian lift subjected to the sub-Riemannian Hamiltonian of g. Based on a conjecture stated by Montgomery around 2002, normal singular curves are avoidable by means of perturbing g generically and preserving D. We prove a particular case of the conjecture, where (g,D) is real-analytic, and D has co-rank 1. We prove the result in the sense of conformal genericity which is stronger than genericity with respect to the Whitney topology.
