The Bilkent University Library is pleased to invite you to a thought-provoking presentation.

Title: Human Rights in the Algocratic Age: An Evaluation on the Practices in the European Union Speaker: Gizem Gültekin -Várkonyi Date: Wednesday, January 15, 2025 Time: 3:00 PM Place: Library Art Gallery

Abstract: The algocratic era compels us to deeply reflect on the impact of artificial intelligence on human rights. The European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Act and the General Data Protection Regulation provide significant frameworks for managing both the risks and opportunities of these technologies.

In this presentation, Gizem Gültekin will discuss how aspects of AI—such as explainability, cost and time efficiency, equality, and freedom from bias—can present both opportunities and risks. The role of universities, libraries, and other organizations in promoting AI literacy will also be emphasized as a critical element for ensuring ethical and human rights-compliant progress in this domain.

We look forward to welcoming you to this enlightening event and engaging in meaningful discussions on this important topic!

*The language of the event will be Turkish.
