This final session of the Cyprus series will examine the stages of the UN negotiation process, the positions of the parties, and the contradictions surrounding the process. The referendum held in April 2004 and the accession of Southern Cyprus to the EU on 1 May 2004 will be discussed in relation to the question, ‘Is a lasting and realistic solution achievable on the island?’ The UN appears to be in the process of making a new assessment of the Cyprus issue. In contrast, UN resolutions and the contradictions they contain continue. In fact, it can be said that both sides are distancing themselves from multilateral conferences, mediation and foreign intervention, and are trying to prolong the process. The question ‘What are the chances of reaching a viable solution in this situation?’ needs to be answered.

The language of the event is Turkish.

Students who attend will receive GE 250/251 credit.
