Abstract: The talk will address the journey of three young people, whose paths intersect with compost practice while looking for nature-based solutions in the city. Project Coordinators try to integrate composting into their own lives and urban practice within the scope of the KompostKent project. In the presentation, within the order: definition of nature-based solutions, what the composting is, the potentials of making compost in the city, and the theoretical and practical information obtained during the project will be shared with the participants. In addition, the participants will be presented with suggestions & tips for composting at home and in the city, and information on the outputs obtained within the scope of the KompostKent project.

Biography:
Merve Peker graduated from Bilkent University, Department of Urban Design and Landscape Architecture in 2018 and is currently a master’s student in Earth System Sciences at Middle East Technical University. She continues her master’s thesis in the field of “Green Solutions to Reduce Urban Heat Island Effect”. She has been one of the coordinators of the KompostKent project for one year and has been doing an internship at the United Nations Acceleration Laboratory. She likes solutions and innovations in the context of nature-human-city. Her dream is to provide ecosystem services and nature-based solutions for urban and rural areas.
Duygu Kural received her undergraduate degree from Hacettepe University, Department of Economics in 2012. In 2018, she completed her master’s degree with a thesis titled “An Analysis of the Optimal Design of Feed-in Tariff Policy for Photovoltaic Investments in Turkey” from the same department. The thesis was awarded the best research award by the Turkey Economic Association. In addition to specializing in renewable energy sources, she worked as a coordinator in projects on climate justice, environmental rights, waste management, and disadvantaged groups. For the 6 months, she has been running the KompostKent project. She is continuing to read in the fields of social justice, feminism, ecological destruction, and trying to develop and spread sustainable living practices.
