Title: “Mapping Interior Architecture within a Multidisciplinary Framework”
Date: December 20, 2023, Wednesday
Time: 12.30-13.20
Place: FF Building, FB22
Abstract:
Interior spaces can be considered as one of the most difficult typologies of spaces to document due to their ever-changing character caused by the choices of the occupants and, environmental and socio-political effects. Thus, interior architecture needs a multidisciplinary frame. Based on the graduate and postgraduate studies of Dr. Sezginalp, this seminar will present a perspective on interior architecture with multidisciplinary approaches and multiple methods. In her doctoral dissertation, Dr. Sezginalp aimed to frame the transformation of the residential interiors within a socio-political and historical context. This framing was supported by the author’s innovative method of mental mapping, which reveals the perceived means of interior architecture of lost-and-not-found homes. Sezginalp used this method in her articles and one TÜBİTAK project on home-making spatial practices. In her recent studies, she focuses on interior architecture education, especially graduation projects, which hold a ceremonial threshold value for the profession.
