In medieval Japan, a story of rape and murder, told from 4 very different perspectives: it’s Rashomon (1950), acclaimed director Akira Kurosawa’s extraordinary tale that eloquently reveals the difficulty of both truth-telling and storytelling, and how the truth is sometimes almost impossible to determine. In the world of Rashomon, self-interest collides with the truth.
Starring Masayuki Mori, Machiko Kyo, and Kurasawa’s great acting muse, Toshiro Mifune, Rashomon is, in the words of critic Pauline Kael, “one of the great film experiences…it has its own perfection.”
Bilkent Cinematics will screen Rashomon on Thursday, Dec. 10, 6.30 p.m., in FFB-22. As always, junk food and refreshments will be served, and prizes will be given away! Informal and friendly discussion always follows. All are welcome.
