WHAT IS A ”SEMINAR OF ECONOMICS IN LITERATURE FOR EVERYBODY?”
While Weber was indicating that “along with rising scientism, instrumental rationality inevitably commands peoples lives, enslaves them and while it estranged them from their inner selves, it also allienates them”, resembles Marx. Both of the thinkers’ main concern was related with the dominance of changing conditions that brought by stronger capitalism. Indeed, starting from the 19th century, in conjunction with the ascending capitalism, increasing functionalism has diffused all areas of human lives, which almost turned them to robots, confined sciences to much more smaller areas and eradicated interdisciplinarity. Instead, almost in all areas, specilization became the only aim for human beings.
The journey of the Western conception of science sometimes brings the rationality even to further instrumental forms and this form might be observed in economics, because of its internal features, with respect to other social sciences. If we return to Weber again, “the world become disenchanted”. This is because while instrumental rationality progress, sciences may loose their touch with individual and society which means the loss of meaning and moreover loss of the big picture. Our main motivation here is to gain the magic of the world back and capturing the big picture. With this motivation, we want to turn to Economics in Literature by organizing a seminar series. These seminars will be hold once in a month and they will be open to discussions around a chosen topic with an invited guest. Language will be Turkish. Everybody who is insterested in Economics in Literature is invited.
