With their world-wide reputation for spirited and technically refined interpretations of contemporary and earlier 20th century music, the legendary Arditti Quartet will be giving their first concert on June 27, Thursday, as honored guests of the Bilkent Composition Academy. The ensemble will be performing the turkish premiere of the contemporary master-composer Helmut Lachenmann’s “Grido”. They will also be featuring works by leading composers of modern music, Jonathan Harvey and Mark Andre, and the rising star Zeynep Gedizlioğlu. The event is supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, Goethe-Institut and Tarabya Kulturakademie. Arditti Quartet is hosted June 27-30 in Bilkent.

Since its foundation by its first violinist Irvine Arditti in 1974, many hundreds of string quartets and other chamber works have been written for Arditti Quartet. Many of these works have left a permanent mark on 20th century repertoire and have given the Arditti Quartet a firm place in music history. World premiers of quartets by composers such as Abrahamsen, Ades, Andriessen, Aperghis, Birtwistle, Biritten, Cage, Carter, Denisov, Dillon, Dufourt, Dusapin, Fedele, Ferneyhough, Francesconi, Gubaidulina, Gurerrero, Harvey, Hosakawa, Kagel, Kurtag, Lachenmann, Ligeti, Maderna, Manoury, Nancarrow, Reynolds, Rihm, Scielsi, Sciarrino, Stockhausen and Xenakis and hundreds more show the wide range of music in Arditti Quartet’s repertoire.
