Professor Daniela Dimitrova Brief Bio:
Daniela Dimitrova (Ph.D., University of Florida) is a Professor at the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication at Iowa State University. Her research interests include political communication, cross-cultural journalism studies and media framing of political news events. Her recent work focuses on the impact of social media on political knowledge and civic engagement as well as refugee communications. Dimitrova’s scholarly record includes more than 50 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals such as Communication Research, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, New Media & Society, Press/ Politics, International Communication Gazette, Journalism Studies and the Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication. She has served as guest editor for special issues of Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly and American Behavioral Scientist.
Dimitrova is the recipient of multiple awards, including the LAS Excellence in Graduate Mentoring and International Service Award from Iowa State University, which recognize significant contributions in graduate mentoring as well international research, teaching and administration. She was featured in the Women Impacting ISU 2018 calendar. Dimitrova has been actively involved with the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication for more than 15 years. In addition to engaging with research presentations and panel sessions, she has served as Head of the Communication Technology (CTEC) division, and as Vice Head/ Program Chair and Research Chair prior to that. Dimitrova has also served as an elected member of the Publications Committee of AEJMC, has chaired an ad hoc task force on the Enhancement of Research for the organization, and is currently an appointed member of the AEJMC Finance Committee.
