Oslo based contemporary music ensemble Cikada will be giving their first concert as the honored guests of Bilkent Composition Academy on June 24, Monday, during their visit between June 24-29 in Bilkent. The ensemble will be performing Possible Cities / Essential Landscapes in the concert, aptly titled “New Music from the North”, written by Academy’s guest professor Eivind Buene. The event is supported by Music Norway, Norway Music Academy and Ankara Norwegian Royal Embassy.

Cikada gained itself an esteemed place in the international contemporary music scene with its ten core members and strong cooperative identity. The ensemble cultivated its performance practice with lively, refreshing, warm and virtuosic interpretations of their meticulously selected repertoire. This process has led both the press and the audience to describe their sound as “the Oslo sound”.

Eivind Buene’s works are built upon dialogues between the past and present, history and timeliness, composing and improvisation, and many others alike. In addition to his career as a composer, Buene is also a literary figure and has published three novels and numerous essays.
