“Music and philosophy are two distinct expressions of the human experience. Our questioning of our place in the universe, our search for meaning in the face of mortality, and our enduring capacity for hope despite all our fragility are among the shared starting points of both philosophy and music.
In this narrated classical music concert, philosophy and music come together as two different languages through which we seek to understand ourselves and our place in the world.
Throughout the program, audiences are invited on an intellectual journey—from age-old questions about our place in the universe to the birth of philosophy; from confronting the reality of death to tragic wisdom, and ultimately to struggle and hope.
Works by Aram Khachaturian, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Camille Saint-Saëns, Johannes Brahms, and Ludwig van Beethoven accompany the different stages of this journey. Each work offers not only a musical experience, but also serves as a window onto some of the fundamental questions of human existence.
Rather than treating narration and music as two separate layers that explain one another, the program approaches them as two distinct voices of the same quest.
As the boundaries between thought and aesthetic experience begin to dissolve, music and philosophy come together once again in humanity’s enduring quest to understand ourselves and our place in the world.”
