“FI-modules and their stable ranges”
Abstract: Let FI be the category of finite sets and injections. In several mathematical situations of interest, a sequence of S_n representations (V_n) over a field/ring k can be promoted to a functor V: FI → k-Mod, shortly an FI-module. I will indicate how certain homological invariants attached to the FI-module V determine several ways in which information about the entire sequence (V_n) can be reduced to computing only finitely many V_n’s.
