“Polynomiality in symmetric group representations via FI-modules”
Abstract: Writing FI for the category of finite sets and injections and k for a fixed commutative ring, a functor V: FI → k-Mod simultaneously defines a sequence (V_n) of symmetric group representations (over k) for every n, which moreover come equipped with transition maps between them. When k is a field, the main result (and possibly refinements) I will mention in this talk is due to Church–Ellenberg–Farb–Nagpal: roughly, certain finiteness properties on V imply the polynomial behavior I mentioned in my previous talk (I will not assume the listeners attended it) on the sequence (V_n).
