“Shifting Heritage/ within the framework of European Heritage Days”
Abstract:
The symposium “Shifting Heritage” will explore new digital paradigms in art, considering both conceptual and practical aspects of the relationship between digital technologies. By revisiting Bilkent University’s pioneering creation of Turkey’s first internet page in the early 1990s, we aim to deepen our understanding of digital heritage and its role within European Heritage Days. This examination highlights the continued relevance and evolution of digital memory and collective heritage.
Building on this historical context, we will explore how our digital lives have transformed us and how rethinking digital media as an art medium has revealed its impact on the art object. Recognizing the transformative impact of digital lives, the symposium will feature interventions from invited speakers. We will investigate how digital experiences have shaped our understanding of art and the art object itself. By focusing on the historical evolution of tradition, labor, cultural sciences, and technological production methods, we aim to offer a nuanced perspective on digital art.
