Abstract: Dr. Kara will talk about Society 5.0 as a vision to balance economic advancement with resolutions to social problems. After briefly concentrating on the evolution of society along with digital transformation, she will focus on the features distinguishing the current state of the society from that of the near future. She will also dwell upon the main pillars of Society 5.0 Economy and the potential paths to ensure sustainability through resilience.
Short Bio: Dr. Kara completed her undergraduate studies in International Relations at Ankara University. She received her M.A. degree in International Relations from Bilkent University, and MSc in International Political Economy (IPE) from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). As a British Council Chevening Scholar, she carried out her pre-doc studies at LSE and received her PhD in European Union and International Economic Relations from Ankara University in 2012. Her PhD thesis was published as a book. She has articles on international trade published at peer-reviewed journals and newspapers. Dr. Kara established the Society 5.0 Institute in August 2017 with a group of professionals, who are specialized on digital transformation, futurism, the philosophy of science and emerging technologies to analyze the best practices on smart society and produce policy recommendations formulized in accordance with conditions, resources and needs specific to Turkey. As a London-based social entrepreneurship, Society 5.0 Institute is moving towards becoming a think tank carrying out projects on ways of adapting to lightning speed technological advances.
