Dear Colleagues and Students,

You are cordially invited to UNAM Nanocolloquium seminars focusing on advancements in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. The seminars bring us the most recent developments in these exciting fields.

The second talk of this fall term will be presented by Prof. Guido Clever*

Title: Guest-binding and Structural Reorganization in Stimuli-responsive Coordination Cages and DNA G-Quadruplexes
Date: October 13, 2017 (Friday)
Time: 15:40
Place: UNAM Conference Hall

ABSTRACT –
The square-planar metal(pyridine)4-motif has proven its value in many self-assembled structures such as helicates, spherical cages and coordination networks. We have prepared a number of discrete mono- and oligonuclear (n = 2 – 6) architectures based on various organic and DNA-derived ligands containing this motif with PdII, PtII, CuII or NiII as the metal center. The talk will highlight functional assemblies including reversibly stabilized DNA-quadruplexes1 and guest-binding coordination cages.2
A focus will be laid on stimuli-responsive systems. In a series of interpenetrated double-cages [Pd4Ligand8], comprising a variety of organic ligands, phenomena such as allosteric and triggered guest binding were observed. We further examine photochromic coordination cages based on dithienylethene (DTE) ligands that allow for reversible control over uptake and release of spherical guests and light-triggered structural reorganization processes.3 Currently, we work on strategies enabling a rational multifunctionalization of self-assembled nanoarchitectures.4
