Abstract:

The Hamas attack over the Gaza fence in October triggered off a year of crisis, with Israel’s war on Gaza having moved to Lebanon and Iran. There is general agreement that a regional war is close and that the world might even be perched on the edge of something much worse. No end is yet in sight. How the Middle East reached this point of crisis – how its origins are to be understood – is the starting point of this talk. Where now? will be the next question, with questions encouraged from the audience to help frame the answers.
