You are cordially invited to the seminars organized by the Department of Physics.
Speaker: Gökhan Barış Bağcı (Mersin Üniversitesi)
“What’s got Economics to do with Thermodynamics?”
Abstract: There has recently been a growing interest in constructing a link between thermodynamics and information theory such as the Landauer principle. In this talk, I show that there is a relation between Expected Utility Theory (EUT) and the second law of thermodynamics. In order to present this link, I will first provide a synopsis of EUT for
physicists, and then outline its link with the second law of thermodynamics, and in particular, constant heat capacity of a heat bath.
Biography: Gökhan Barış Bagci graduated from the Physics Department of METU in 1996. He completed a Master’s degree in 1998 and a PhD in 2005 at Physics Department of Middle East Technical University under the supervision of Ramazan Sever. Additionally, he earned a
PhD in Philosophy at the same university in 2006 with a thesis titled “New Directions in the Direction of Time” under the supervision of Teo Grünberg. G. B. Bagci obtained another PhD in Physics from University of North Texas under the supervision of Donald H. Kobe.
Bagci has been a visiting faculty in Mexico, Germany and Israel. In Turkey, he worked in Ege, TOBB ETU and Mersin Universities. Bagci works on quantum resource theories and statistical physics.
