“The Geometry and Some Cohomological Invariants of Algebraic Stacks”
Abstract: Algebraic stacks are a useful tool in algebraic geometry, especially in moduli theory, when one wishes to capture a parameterization of objects of interest as well as the morphisms between those objects. The Picard and Brauer groups are examples of cohomological invariants which give information about stacks that cannot be seen at the level of schemes. Motivated by moduli theoretic examples, I will discuss results on calculating the Picard group of a stacky curve, the Brauer group of the classifying stack BG, and how to identify a Brauer-Severi stack over BG with a class in the Brauer group of BG.
