“Persistent Homology and Discrete Morse Theory”

Abstract: Persistent homology is a powerful tool in applied topology, yet its computation can be expensive. In this talk we will briefly introduce persistent homology. Then, building on our previous discussion of Discrete Morse Theory (DMT), we demonstrate how DMT can be used to reduce the size of relevant complexes in persistent homology, leading to gains in computational efficiency.
