“Basel Problem”
Abstract: In this talk, the celebrated Basel problem is introduced, which goes back to 17th century and motivated many mathematicians throughout the history. We will discuss some of the solutions of this problem using fundamental tools from different areas. Then we will present the relatively recent proof due to Ram Murty which uses only some basic techniques from calculus and number theory. This talk is easily accessible to undergraduates too and they are strongly recommended to join.
