“Asymptotics of extremal polynomials”
Abstract: The asymptotic behavior of extremal polynomials (in particular, Chebyshev polynomials and orthogonal polynomials) is considered.
Both classical and some recent results are presented. We discuss upper and lower bounds of Widom factors (ratios of the norm of the n-th degree extremal polynomial to the n-th degree of the capacity of the set). The talk is a popularization of the subject. It is accessible for graduate students.
