Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning are increasingly becoming embedded in all forms of technology that incorporate data exchange, creating a wide range of opportunities from new services and breakthroughs in science, to the augmentation of human intelligence and its convergence with the digital world. There are also considerable uncertainties about AI, particularly delegation of decision-making to machines, lack of transparency and potential unintended consequences for society and humanity. The speed at which AI and related technologies are being developed and deployed raises serious legal challenges difficult to be resolved under existing legal provisions, for which most of the lawmakers around the globe are not well-equipped. This talk will delve into these challenges from a comparative perspective, primarily focusing on privacy and data protection issues presented by AI, legal nature and protection of algorithms and distribution of liability arising from AI, predictive justice and algorithmic bias.
