DESIGN AS RESEARCH & DESIGN AS EDUCATION
Bio:
Gökhan Numanoğlu taught graduate classes in graphic design, typography, history of design and illustration in Lebanese American University, American University in Dubai, Başkent University and Gazi University. He conducted short term researches in Eikones Center in Switzerland and University of Art and Design Linz in Austria. He is currently teaching as a Visiting Assistant Professor at American University of Sharjah.
His fields of research are relationship of image and type, history of image; in particular 16th century Ottoman illuminated maps and miniatures, 19th century Ottoman print culture and design education. This talk will cover his past and current experiences as a researcher, designer, educator and will suggest answers to the following questions: Is design a research-based activity? How does a designer research? -and – How does one learn design?
