Artificial Intelligence and Arts
On April 11, 2025 Dr. Ece Yücel (Işık University) will give a speech about the relationship between fine arts and machines. Scheduled to start at12.00 am through zoom, the speech will provide a highlighting to questions which have become central to fine arts such as whether we should look for ethical dimensions in our relationships with art works and if involvement of artificial intelligence in fine arts is long-lasting.
Machines have become an active but controversial actor in the art world with an increasing momentum in the recent period, as well as aspire to human labor. Thus, art, which was for a long time exempt from the intervention of the machine, was also confronted with artisanal and creative artificial systems. Today, machines have a successful presence in the fields of poetry, painting, sculpture, music, screenwriting, and even curating, making assertive statements. While the commun discussion is focused on the involvement of the machine in art and its ability to make art, this problematic may evolve into a new questioning : whether the machine will have an artistic motive in terms of an intention and need to produce art.
