Title: Exploring Technical Debt in AI Projects
Presenter: Özden Özcan Top, PhD, Asst. Prof. Dr. in Information Systems, METU Informatics Institute
Date: 24.4.2025, 15:30 – 16:45
Location: CE106 – C Building, East Campus
Abstract: Technical debt is a metaphor that describes the long-term costs incurred when quick, suboptimal solutions are chosen over more sustainable ones during software development. Managing technical debt is essential to ensure long-term maintainability, scalability, and quality of software systems while minimizing future development costs and risks. In this seminar Dr. Özcan-Top will explore the concept of technical debt in software systems and AI integrated software systems.
Bio: Özden Özcan-Top is an assistant professor of Information Systems at Middle East Technical University, Türkiye. She worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Regulated Software Research Centre, Ireland. She has participated in several industry-academy projects either as a researcher or a consultant. Her main research areas include social software engineering, medical device software development processes, adoption of agile software development methods in highly regulated domains, AI-based software development processes, and technical debt management in software systems.
The presentation language will be English.
