“Isomorphisms and links between character triples”

Abstract: Isaacs introduced the notion of a {\em character triple} $(G,N,\theta)$, that is, a finite group $G$, a normal subgroup $N$ of $G$, and a $G$-stable irreducible character $\theta$ of $N$. Moreover, he introduced the notion of an {\em isomorphism} between two character triples. More recently, several conjectures in character theory were reduced to proving the existence of character triple isomorphisms with additional properties between character triples that arise from finite non-abelian simple groups. Also, the proofs of these reduction theorems make heavy use of such character triple isomorphisms. In joint work with John McHugh and Nariel Monteiro, we introduce the notion of a {\em link} between character triples. Links induce character triple isomorphisms and have better functorial properties. They simplify the proofs of reduction theorems and also the statements of the various inductive conditions on non-abelian finite simple groups.
