Title: Ambiguity in Architectural Design: AI-Driven Classification and Generation of Residential Spaces

Speaker: Berfin Yıldız

Date: 19.06.2025
Time: 13:30-14:30
Place: FFB-05

Abstract:

This seminar examines how computational intelligence methods can address ambiguity in architectural design, particularly within residential contexts. The first part introduces a machine learning model that classifies spaces by incorporating spatial quality data such as visual and topological relationships, capturing functional patterns across iconic 20th-century floor plans. The second part presents a generative model that creates open-plan layouts from given boundaries, encoding spatial functions through gradient color representations. Together, these approaches demonstrate how AI can both interpret and generate architectural logic—supporting flexible and data-driven design processes.
