Fritz Lang’s sci-fi classic “Metropolis” is next up for Bilkent Cinematics on April 11.
This iconic 1927 silent era film follows young Freder, of the wealthy Metropolis, who falls in love with Maria, who toils in the harsh workers’ world beneath the rich beautiful city. As Maria strives for a union between these two worlds, the film’s tension increases and its political allegory, outlining the battle between rich and poor, becomes more explicit.
New York Times critic A.O. Scott calls “Metropolis” “one of the most intensely studied and widely imitated films of the silent era. It grows more complex and mysterious as time goes on.”
