UNAM Nanokolokyum: “From Fundamentals to Materials to Supramolecules: Unifying Power of Synthetic Organic Chemistry”, Prof. Görkem Günbaş, UNAM Konferans Salonu, 15:40 21 Şubat (EN)

Dear Colleagues and Students,

You are cordially invited to UNAM Nanocolloquium seminars focusing on advancements in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. The seminars bring us the most recent developments in these exciting fields. This week’s talk will be presented by Prof. Görkem Günbaş.

Title: From Fundamentals to Materials to Supramolecules: Unifying Power of Synthetic Organic Chemistry

Date: February 21, 2020 (Friday)
Refreshments: 15:40
Time: 16:00
Place: UNAM Conference Hall

ABSTRACT:

Among many scientific abilities we acquired over the years as human beings, only a small portion of them have the chance to influence variety of branches of science and technology. I will argue in my talk that synthetic organic chemistry is worth to be classified as one of these abilities. Using my independent research activities as a canvas, I will try to convince the audience of the unique unifying ability of synthetic chemistry and many different fields that the synthesis has the power to influence significantly. The talk will be concentrated on three main parts:
• our efforts to test the limits of bonding and reactivity in organic chemistry using a unique molecular framework
• an organic chemist’s journey in the field of solar energy research based on our work on organic and perovskite solar cells
• supramolecular chemistry approaches we are developing for generating complex assemblies and to create alternative cancer therapies
