Biography: Ashraf M. Salama (PhD, FRSA, FHEA) is Professor of Architecture and Head of the Department of Architecture, University of Strathclyde Glasgow, United Kingdom. He is the recipient of the 2017 UIA Jean Tschumi Prize for Excellence in Architectural Education and Criticism, which recognizes his achievements in a career spanning 30 years, in which he has headed three architecture departments – two as founder – in three continents. He has authored and co-edited nine books and more than 170 articles and chapters in the international refereed press on various timely and pressing issues that cross the boundaries of disciplines and include theories and methodologies of design studio teaching in architecture and urban design; assessing designed environments from socio-cultural and users’ perspectives; and architecture and urbanism in emerging cities in the global south.
