Dr. Aleksi Ylonen is Associate Professor of International Relations at the United States International University Africa. He holds a doctorate in International Relations and African Studies (2011 – Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA) in Public International Law and International Relations ( 2008 – Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), and International Master in Peace, Conflict and Development Studies (2005 – Universidad Jaume I, Castelló de la Plan). He was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Turku, Finland, and a visiting researcher at the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt, Germany. Dr. Ylönen is also a member of the African Studies Group at the Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain. His work concentrates on states, armed conflicts, and security issues, and his geographical expertise area is the greater Horn of Africa. His research has been published in The African Journal on Conflict Resolution, The Review of African Political Economy, and The Journal of Peacebuilding and Development, among others. He is the author of El sueño liberal en África Subsahariana. Debates y controversias sobre la construcción de la paz (Los Libros de la Catarata y Casa África, 2013) and Más Allá de la Barbarie y de la Codicia. Historia y política en las guerras africanas (Bellaterra, 2012). In 2017, Prof. Ylönen co-edited (with Jan Záhořík) The Horn of Africa since the 1960s. Local and International Politics Intertwined, which was published by Routledge.
