His ideas had a profound influence on future research on this problem. One of Grothendieck\u2019s characterizations of AP was later used by Enflo in the first construction of a separable Banach space without basis. After this, substantial simplifications were suggested by Pelczynski, Figiel, Kwapien, Szankowski and others.
