Our work over the years have concentrated on single and entangled photon preparation and characterization, protecting entangled systems against decoherence, remote sensing, and understanding the foundational limits of plasmonics with quantum states of light. More recently, we have shifted our attention to quantum emitters in 2D materials and the non-Hermitian dynamics of classical and quantum systems. We will address the challenges and potential opportunities in these emerging areas.

Ozdemir is a professor and the chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Saint Louis University (SLU). Before joining SLU in August 2024, he was with the Engineering Science and Mechanics (ESM) Dept. at the Pennsylvania State University (2017-2024) and the Electrical and Systems Engineering Dept. at Washington University in St. Louis (2009-2017). Ozdemir received B.Sc. (1992) and M.Sc. (1995) from Middle East Technical University (METU), Turkey, and Ph.D. (2000) from Shizuoka University, Japan, all in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He worked with Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) on various quantum information projects (2000-2009) and served as Specially Appointed Prof. at the Graduate University for Advanced Studies (2003-2004) and at Osaka University (2014-2019). Ozdemir has published 240+ articles in topics ranging from quantum optics, quantum information, and non-Hermitian physical systems to plasmonics, micro/nano-photonics, and sensors. He is named as “Highly Cited Researcher” by Web of Science (2019-2024).
