The Department of Fine Arts is pleased to invite Bilkent students,
\nfaculty, and friends to a lunchtime lecture by H. Esra Oskay:<\/p>\n
Artistic Thinking as a Practice-based Inquiry<\/p>\n
The lecture investigates the image of the contemporary artist, as well
\nas the skills required of artists working in the field of contemporary
\nart. I elaborate on artistic practice as a special form of knowledge and
\nresearch by reflecting on current debates that explore the
\nparticularities of artistic thinking. As Paul Feyerabend underlines, \u201cin
\nthe struggle to understand the world, all methods and ways of perceiving
\nare basically permissible,\u201d and art, as such, leaves up space for
\npossibilities that exist beyond the predetermined paths of knowledge.
\nBased on this brief outline, I will examine the potentialities of
\nartistic thinking as an experimental and material type of thinking in
\ntoday\u2019s academic climate. I will emphasise artistic thinking as a
\ncreative engagement with the world that transcends disciplinary methods
\nand knowledge, and hence as a research-based and practice-led critical
\nendeavour. Finally, in light of these discussions, I will reflect on the
\nshifting parameters of art education today.<\/p>\n
H. Esra Oskay is a practicing artist and researcher currently at AHBV
\nUniversity, Faculty of Fine Arts, Painting Department\/Ankara. She
\nreceived her PhD from the University of Edinburgh\/ Scotland, Humanities
\nand Social Sciences, Department of Drawing and Painting.<\/p>\n
