I will argue in my talk that synthetic organic chemistry is worth to be classified as one of these abilities. Using my independent research activities as a canvas, I will try to convince the audience of the unique unifying ability of synthetic chemistry and many different fields that the synthesis has the power to influence significantly. The talk will be concentrated on three main parts:
• our efforts to test the limits of bonding and reactivity in organic chemistry using a unique molecular framework
• an organic chemist’s journey in the field of solar energy research based on our work on organic and perovskite solar cells
• supramolecular chemistry approaches we are developing for generating complex assemblies and to create alternative cancer therapies

About the Speaker:

Dr. Gunbas graduate from METU Chemistry Department where he also conducted his M.Sc. research. He then moved to UC Davis for his PhD studies. After a one-year post-doctoral visit at UC Berkeley under the supervision of Dr. Dean Toste, Dr. Gunbas started his independent career at METU Chemistry in 2014. Dr. Gunbas has 39 publications in respected journal such as JACS, Nature Chemistry and Advanced Materials. His papers were cited over 1900 times with a h-index of 24 He is the recipient of BAGEP – Science Academy (2017), GEBİP – Turkish Academy of Sciences (2018) and METU Parlar Foundation – Research Incentive (2018) awards. He recently awarded an ERC-starting grant on development of PDT agents for brain cancer treatment.

Dear Colleagues and Students, You are cordially invited to UNAM Nanocolloquium seminars focusing on advancements in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology.
