Abstract
\n(ENG) Diplomatic gift exchange between the Byzantines and their neighbours have been traditionally seen as a non-economic exchange. Political and cultural significance of gifts are emphasized over their economic implications. Among the economic implications one can count a. the financial impact of gift exchange on the sender and the receiver, b. the economic stimulation that gift exchange caused for trade and manufacturing in the local markets of the sending and receiving parties, c. the role of gifts as promotional items, i.e the gift-sending country send gifts to promote its export items. These three points will be explored in the example of the middle Byzantine period gift exchange, with a focus on the gift exchanges between the Byzantine and Near Eastern courts.<\/p>\n
(TR) Modern tarih\u00e7iler Orta \u00c7a\u011fda Bizans ve Yak\u0131n Do\u011fu saraylar\u0131 aras\u0131ndaki diplomatik hediye de\u011fi\u015f-toku\u015funu temelde ticaret d\u0131\u015f\u0131 bir de\u011fi\u015f-toku\u015f olarak g\u00f6rm\u00fc\u015flerdir. Hediye de\u011fi\u015f toku\u015funun, taraflar \u00fcst\u00fcnde iktisadi etkisi \u00fc\u00e7 ana ba\u015fl\u0131k alt\u0131nda toplanabilir: a. De\u011fi\u015f toku\u015fun g\u00f6nderici ve al\u0131c\u0131 \u00fczerindeki mali etkisi, b. Hediyeyi g\u00f6nderenin s\u00f6z konusu \u00fcr\u00fcn\u00fc \u00fcretmek i\u00e7in harcad\u0131\u011f\u0131 \u00e7aban\u0131n ve hediye alan\u0131n gelen hediyeyi taklit etmesinin yerel iktisada olumlu etkisi, c. G\u00f6nderilen hediyelerin ihracat kalemlerini te\u015fvik ama\u00e7l\u0131 g\u00f6nderilmesi. Bu konu\u015fmada, yukar\u0131da say\u0131lan \u00fc\u00e7 nokta, orta Bizans d\u00f6nemi diplomatik hediye k\u00fclt\u00fcr\u00fc \u00f6rne\u011finde i\u015flenecektir.
