Abstract:
Sustainability is not only environmental. In my opinion, the issue of modern slavery is closely linked to the issue of sustainability and there can be no sustainability as long as there is exploitation, social inequalities and gender discrimination.

Sustainability means educating ourselves as consumers, being aware of the impact our purchases have on the environment, both in the production phase and in the disposal stages.

As consumers, we have the power to change the negative effects of capitalism and globalization through our choices and our behaviour.

To foster a more sustainable future, it is our task to inform and educate our children to be aware that every action you take can have a positive or negative side effect.

Statement
Patricia Jacomella’s work focuses on our value systems and how we can change them, and her installations are shaped through a deconstruction of the cultural codes that shape our environment. She often uses recycled objects to make her work and comments on the ways in which women are exploited. Her outlook is shaped by the idea that the art world as a cultural system should be more and do more than being “a mere instrument for creating economic value”, and aim education, awareness and sensitization, and I totally share her perspective.
